Notes - There is no record of his marriage to Elizabeth Twigg or Twiggs, but it probably occurred in Frederick County, Maryland. They moved along the Great Wagon Road to Sandy Creek in North Carolina, part of what is now Orange County, where all his children were born.
Many of the early settlers along the Road were Scotch-Irish (Scots who settled in Ulster, North Ireland before emigrating to America), French Huguenots and Quakers from Lancashire, as well as Germans and Swiss.
