94 | Data based on "From England to America, Our Allred Family " by Dawnell Hatton Griffin: John teetered on the edge of poverty his whole life, time and again having to appeal to the villages where he lived in Eccles Parish to provide housing for him and his ever-growing family. He and Ellen had ten children; it appears that she died giving birth to their tenth child. See her record for notes on her Pemberton ancestors. John worked as a servant and at other menial jobs, never seeming to build up any holding or possessions. He was sometimes Presbyterian and sometimes Quaker, while Ellen stayed a Quaker all her life. DH Griffon describes him as a "seeker after truth." Their son Solomon, only four when his mother died, was the first Allred immigrant to America of the line that produced Rachel, wife of John Patton Webb. His father had applied to his cousin Ralph and to Ralph's son, Phineas, for help in moving to America without success, but Phineas may have helped John's son Solomon get started after he emigrated. | ALLRED, John (I340040514001)

96 | Data on William's family documented by parish records from Lancashire, Chester and Manchester Counties as recorded in the Griffin book, "From England to America, Our Allred Family." William became a prosperous farmer, beekeeper and weaver but apparently lost most of his wealth in the English Civil War because he backed the king, Charles I, who was beheaded by Oliver Cromwell. William died just before Cromwell did, but his fortunes were not restored. His only son, John, must have inherited little because he was poor his whole life. His marriage to Alice Tongue is not documented. | ALLRED, William (I340041251271)
