Marcus Lorenzo Taft and His Ancestors

The illustrious Taft family came from England, Scotland, Ireland and France and lived five generations on farms in Massachusetts before branching out to New York and Maryland; one line emigrated from England to Bermuda and then to Maryland and New York. They were farmers, town leaders, politicians, judges, carpenters, statesmen, at least one U. S. President, Commodores of the Navy, soldiers, scholars, philanthropists and churchmen, benefactors and graduates of Wesleyan University…leading to the much admired minister and missionary to China, Rev. Marcus Lorenzo Taft.
